Reminding that they concluded the disputes in 4 months the latest in accordance with the Law, Insurance Arbitration Committee Deputy Director Şükran Eroğlu called the insurers having problems to use this system and she emphasized that the applications could be made easily through the system.

Insurance Arbitration Commission (STK) aiming to find faster solutions without applying the court in case of any disputes between insurance companies and their consumers has recently started to develop in Turkey.

106.827 applications were made to the STK last year with an increase of 26.5 percent compared to 2017, number of concluded files increased to 85.314 by 31.5 percent. In the first quarter of the year, the number of applications increased by 2 percent to 27.238, while the number of concluded files increased by 27 percent to 25.799 units. Even if the applications looks less when compared 69 million policies issued by insurance companies, Insurance Arbitration Committee Deputy Director Lawyer Şükran Eroğlu said that the system showed a great growth performance in Turkey and added that the main problem is the promotion.

Stating that applications are reasonable for today Eroğlu added that “Many disputes are solved between the insurer and the insurance company before reaching us. Arbitration can be used by insurers with its easy application methods, objective structure and swift decision process. Dispute files are required to be concluded within latest 4 months as stated by law as of the arrival to STK judge.

Deputy Director of Consumer Protection Association Eroğlu said that the system has time and cost advantage compared to the courts. Most of the complaints are about “value loss” in traffic insurance and they have been working on this issue for a legal regulation.

Decisions are in favour of the consumer

-106.286 of 106.827 total applications were in the non-life insurance field. Applications for life insurance were 541.

-Most of the decision taken by STK was in favour of the consumer. 45.550 applications of 85.314 total concluded applications were fully accepted and 23. 907 of them were partially accepted. 15. 857 files were rejected.
